What’s New at Design Right
Edition 02 · September 2026
A month spent inside real tender sets — and most of what changed, changed because a pilot team’s drawings refused to behave.
Takeoff
Your drawings are read at the resolution they were drawn at
Every sheet was being rasterised at 72 DPI before the detector ever saw it — and at that size a 5 mm symbol is about fourteen pixels. On a real set that meant 0 of ~190 card readers found, plus thirteen fire devices that were never on the page. Sheets now render at 216 DPI and the same set returns 55 of 55. Rendering moved to a background worker, so a twenty-sheet A0 set runs at two to three seconds a sheet with the app responsive the whole way through.
Takeoff
The detector stopped counting the title block
Each sheet’s plan area is now found before detection runs. The legend, key plan, revision table, north arrow and notes column sit outside it — which matters, because those are exactly where textbook symbols score highest. On the first real AV sheet: 46 detections, 30 of them real. Nothing is deleted. The sixteen that landed on chrome stay visible behind a toggle, and one click brings any of them back. Cropping the detector’s input to the plan also made every call about 15% faster.
Counts
Twenty-five device types were counted, then quietly dropped
A fire-alarm drawing carrying 215 devices surfaced it. Door holders had no catalogue entry at all, and twenty-four more types — beam detectors, annunciators, monitor and control modules, waterflow and tamper switches, duress buttons, speakers, displays — classified correctly in review and then vanished before the rollup. Every one of them lands now. Same drawing, same file: 182 → 205 devices reaching the counts, none dropped. Re-running a sheet also replaces its previous result instead of stacking a second set on top of it.
Bid Intelligence
A tender reaches a BOM and a proposal, not just a count
Bid Intelligence read the package and stopped at counts; RFP Center could build the BOM and proposal but could never swallow a whole tender. The two halves now meet — a processed package runs straight through the same generators. The clarifications that reach the proposal are only the compliance findings you confirmed — an unreviewed guess has no business in front of a customer’s procurement team.
Specifications are read down to the clause now, every requirement a verbatim quote from your own document — a paraphrase fails the check and is flagged rather than stored as fact.
Compliance & markets
Jurisdiction is now something the system knows
An overseas tender came back with ten US compliance flags — prevailing wage, ITAR, NIST 800-171, a state contractor licence — on a project in a jurisdiction where not one of them applied. The country is now resolved from the project itself, rules outside it never fire, and an unmodelled jurisdiction produces an honest note rather than a confident critical. Commercially, the same story: Saudi Arabia is open, our first served market outside the Americas.
Operations
Winning a job builds the registry — from the estimate, not just the design
The promotion that runs when you mark a project won only ever read a Creative Studio design, so jobs that came through Estimator Hub were marked won, advanced to procurement, and handed an empty registry without a word of warning. They promote from the stored proposal now, Procurement reads them, and the lifecycle advances again.
Door contacts are counted now, one per door; shared power supplies deliberately are not, since one serves roughly four. The dashboard also answers people whose job starts at the contract — procurement through warranty — and every console carrying customer data sits behind authentication or a signed link.
🔧 You asked, we shipped — often same-day
- “Most symbols are missed, and zooming goes pixelated — is it rasterised too low before the detector?” — right on both counts. That question is the 216 DPI change above.
- “Seventeen door holders came back as unknown.” — they had no catalogue entry. Neither did twenty-four other types.
- “My 57-sheet set dies at exactly ten minutes.” — twice, on an otherwise clean run. The budget scales with the set now: about 33 minutes for twenty sheets, 69 for 145.
